A 55 year old university student might not seem that exciting now in the age of online courses and so much more, but it was something else in 1958.
Mrs. House became a student at the University when, her family grown, she found she needed something to do. Her children suggested she take a few courses at the University.
The title Ah, Wilderness! derives from the oft—quoted quatrain of Omar Khayam:
“A book of verses underneath the Bough,
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread—and thou
Beside me singing in the wilderness——
Oh, Wilderness were Paradise enow!”
Eugene O’Neill titled his comedy “Oh, Wilderness!” when he completed it in 1933, however, the producers, the Theatre Guild, persuaded him to change the title to Ah, Wilderness!
The Article from the 1965 Branding Iron caught my eye: "'Sweeney Todd:' Bloody Good Melodrama".
